What we collect

About the child: their first name and the photos you send. We do not ask for a birth date, age, address or school.

About you: your name and email address, and, if the story is a gift, the recipient’s name and email address.

About the order: the story you chose, any dedication message, notes or discount code you enter, and, for a custom story, the idea you describe.

Photos: one to three photos of your child, which we need to draw them in the story.

For a free planner: the email address you enter to download it, and whether you asked to hear from us. We email you when a new month’s planner is ready only if you ticked that box, and you can ask us to stop at any time.

Where you are: the country you tell us you live in, and the country your internet connection appears to come from. We serve Canada and the United States only, and we use this to check that we are able to serve you. Stripe also asks for your billing address when you pay.

We never see or store your payment card details. You enter them on a secure page run by Stripe, our payment provider.

How we use it

We use this information only to make and deliver your story, and to email you about your order, its price and payment.

We do not sell your information, share it for advertising, or use it to build profiles.

Photos of your child

Photos are reduced in size in your browser before they are sent, which also removes hidden details such as where the photo was taken.

They are stored privately. Only Maya & Griffin can open them, after signing in.

They are used only to illustrate your child in your story. To turn a photo into a cartoon illustration we give it to ChatGPT, a service of OpenAI. We do not give it to any other AI tool, and we have switched off the setting that would let our chats and uploads be used to train OpenAI’s models.

We delete photos within 30 days of delivering your story, and sooner if you ask.

Who helps us run the service

Our website, order records and photo storage are provided by Cloudflare, payments are handled by Stripe under its own privacy policy, and the page fonts are loaded from Google Fonts. These companies process data on our behalf or receive basic technical details such as your IP address, and their servers may be outside your country.

Every story is shaped by us: we choose the ideas, decide how every illustration should look, and write and edit the text down to the individual words. ChatGPT, a service of OpenAI, is a tool we use along the way, not the author. The photos you send are given to it. OpenAI handles them under its own privacy policy, and its servers may be outside your country.

Cookies

This website does not use advertising or tracking cookies. Our hosting provider may set cookies that are strictly needed for security.

How long we keep it

Photos: up to 30 days after delivery, as described above.

Order details: for as long as we need them to provide the service and to keep the business records the law requires. You can ask us to delete them earlier.

Your choices

You can ask to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you or your child at any time by emailing mayagriffintales@gmail.com. We will reply within 30 days.

Children

Stories are requested by a parent, guardian or another adult. This website is not meant to be used by children on their own, and we ask that you only share a child’s details or photo if you are their parent or guardian or have that person’s permission.
